Understanding Your Livestock Reconciliation Report

The Livestock Reconciliation Report helps you track livestock changes over a set period. It takes a snapshot of your data at the start date and another at the end date of your chosen range. It then compares the change in head count to any livestock events recorded during that time — such as sales, purchases, births, and livestock losses.

Mobble is designed to be as simple and flexible as possible, so this report is intentionally kept straightforward. If the numbers don’t reconcile exactly as you expect, here are some common reasons why:

Common Reasons for Unexpected Differences

  • Herd edits after the opening snapshot
If you manually change herd numbers after the start of the reporting period (e.g. adjusting a herd’s head count), these changes won’t be included in the reconciliation.
  • New or deleted herds without a recorded event
If herds are added or removed without using a specific event type (e.g. sale, purchase, or livestock loss), the report won't be able to account for that change.
  • Recategorising herds
If a herd’s breed, category, or sex is changed after being entered, this recategorisation will show in a new line on the report. For example, if a herd is added as Mixed Sex via a Natural Increase event and later split into Ewes and Wethers, that split won’t show as a recorded event — but the closing totals will still accurately reflect the current data.
  • Backdated events near the report window
Events such as livestock losses or sales that are backdated just before or after the reporting period won’t be included. Double-check the event dates to ensure they fall within your selected range.
  • Livestock movements between ranches
Movements between ranches aren’t included in the reconciliation when filtering by an individual ranch. They shift numbers between locations but don’t affect total stock. You can, however, select multiple ranches using the filter at the top of the page for a broader view.

Best Practices for Accurate Reconciliation

To get the most out of your Livestock Reconciliation Report:

  • Always record livestock changes using actions
Use Mobble’s built-in actions (like sales, purchases, or livestock losses) rather than manually adjusting herd totals.
  • Avoid unrecorded herd additions or deletions
Make sure every new or removed herd has a corresponding recorded reason.
  • Add Natural Increase by sex (not “Mixed Sex”)
This allows the increase to appear as an addition in the “Differences” column at the end of the reporting period.
  • Check your date ranges carefully
Ensure the events you want included fall within the report’s start and end dates.
