Mobble lives and breathes agriculture, and we’re passionate about exploring ways to make farmers’ and ranchers’ lives simpler and more productive.

Our monthly webinars are a great way to connect with other AgTech companies, industry leaders, and innovators doing great things in this space. Every second month, we collaborate with a guest partner to bring fresh perspectives and insights.

In September, we’re excited to be joined by Nick Seymour, founder of Farmo.

Q: What's your farming background ?

Nick: I grew up on the family farm near Hamilton, Victoria. We had merino sheep and endured the boom and bust of the wool market, and footrot. We also had hereford cattle.

In 1989 I spent a year travelling and working on farms in NZ, getting right into intensive rotational grazing, as well as time in Argentina where I cut my teeth blade shearing by hand in the Andes.

Between 1993-95 I returned to the family farm, but I wasn’t happy working with my dad. Lucky I left as three decades later, he’s still going strong as an energetic 89 year old.

In 2018 I returned to the family farm part time, working remotely.

I have always considered myself a very poor farmer. It's such a difficult profession that requires a deep understanding of the past, while keeping up with the future. The result of your endeavours is mostly sold as a commodity for whatever the market offers at the time.

Despite that, I don’t think we could have made a good AgTech product without a farming background.

Q: Briefly outline the harrowing experience that led you to create Farmo

Nick: In 2019 I found a dozen weaners had pushed through a fence into a laneway and were suffering without water. This experience motivated me to design our first product, the Water Rat.

Q: Why do farmers love the Water Rat?

Nick: It’s simple, has one job, and does it well. Ie: Does my trough have water?
