Using Mobble for Rotational Grazing

Rotational grazing is a proven method for improving pasture health, optimising livestock performance and making the most of available land. By moving stock strategically between paddocks, farmers can prevent overgrazing, encourage pasture regrowth and ultimately boost productivity across their livestock operation. But tracking these movements, along with paddock conditions, grazing history and livestock performance is key to successful rotational grazing. Mobble is built with this in mind, making it one of the most powerful tools for your business.

Map for success

A successful rotational grazing system starts with understanding and planning how land is used. Mobble allows farmers to easily map their property on any device, creating a clear visual of their farm layout. Each paddock is named and coded according to its type (eg: pasture, cropping, mixed) with the land size shown in the metric you prefer.  Mobble allows you to manually edit a grazable area size too.

Once the paddocks are mapped, livestock mobs can be added to their location. Farmers can record stock movements, ensuring that every move is logged and up-to-date. This real-time tracking means no more relying on memory or paper records - everything is stored in one easy-to-access place.

Automatic days grazed/rested counters

One of the key benefits of Mobble is its ability to track days grazed and rested by paddock. By logging when stock are moved between paddocks, farmers get a clear picture of how long each paddock area has been grazed and how many days it has been rested for. This is crucial for preventing overgrazing, which can degrade pasture quality and lead to lower productivity.

A quick glance at the paddocks list in Mobble shows days grazed/days rested data, as well as the stocking rate of that paddock. Farmers can rely on Mobble’s records to make data-driven decisions. Forgot to update your mob moves? No worries - you can now backdate mob moves up to two weeks in the past and it will be accurately reflected in your grazing data.

Paddock management

To further build out a complete view of your farm, Map Assets allow farmers to accurately record key assets on the property. Whether it’s water troughs, electric fences, hay sheds, it removes the guesswork for anyone using Mobble on your property.

Paddock actions can be tracked in Mobble. No matter what action you’ve taken -  fertilised, harvested, sowed, added feed on offer - it can be recorded and tracked in Mobble.

Additionally, Mobble allows farmers to integrate rainfall records into their pasture management plan. Having this data alongside grazing records provides a more complete picture of farm conditions. You can track multiple rain gauge data within your Mobble account.

Using Live Inventory to track feed availability

Mobble’s Live Inventory feature allows farmers to track the amount of feed on hand at any time.

By updating this record as inventory actions are taken, farmers can have accurate, real-time data on feed on hand.

Get the entire farming team on the same page

For farms with multiple workers, keeping track of stock movements and grazing plans can be difficult. Mobble allows you to add team members to your account - providing role-specific access - to ensure everyone on the farm stays up to date with what’s happening on-farm.

Instead of relying on whiteboards, notebooks or text messages, the entire farming team can open Mobble and instantly see which paddocks are in use, which are resting, and where livestock are located. This reduces miscommunication and ensures that rotational grazing plans are followed correctly.

Similarly for contractors, they can be added with a view-only access to Mobble to undertake important tasks, with GPS-precision for location-specific tasks.

Simplify record keeping and compliance

Accurate record-keeping is essential for rotational grazing, not just for internal management but also for compliance with industry regulations. Mobble makes it easy to maintain grazing records, which can be useful for audits, certification programs, or government reporting.

By having all grazing records in one place, farmers can quickly generate reports on paddock use, mob movements and feed availability. This not only saves time but also ensures that decisions are based on accurate, up-to-date data rather than guesswork.

Better grazing, healthier pastures, higher productivity

Mobble transforms rotational grazing from a manual, time-consuming process into an efficient and data-driven system. By providing clear insights into stock movements, pasture recovery, and livestock performance, it helps farmers get the most out of their land while ensuring long-term pasture health and sustainability.

Whether you’re managing a small operation or a large-scale grazing system, Mobble makes it easier to plan, track, and optimise rotational grazing - leading to better pastures, healthier livestock and improved farm productivity.
